TITLE: Dukes Of Hazard

FORMAT: PSX CATEGORY: Race and chase PLAYERS 1 to 2 PRICE: $54.95, GST included RATING: 65% BO and LUKE Duke were childhood idols of mine.

I, along with many of my friends, would religiously sit in front of the box, week-in week-out, watching the Duke brothers continually outwit and out-run Boss Hogg and his halfwit sheriffs.

So when I heard that a Dukes Of Hazard game was being made for PlayStation my eyes lit up with anticipation.

I mean, how good would it be to jump in the General Lee and cruise around the county causing havoc?

How let-down can one man be?

The game is told through pre-rendered cut-scenes in which the characters look downright frightening.

The story moves along from plot to plot, with the Dukes running away from Rossco and Enos as they save bank payrolls from balaclava-clad bandits and even save Boss Hogg from being kidnapped.

Gameplay is all important in today's gaming and to be honest, it is almost non-existent here.

The challenges put before you are boring and far too easy.

Gamers with any nous can be through this number in one night of play.

Graphically it looks okay.

But there are some weird seams and glitchy polygons that appear on the side of the screen for no particular reason.

The frame-rate is at a decent speed and the cars move along smoothly enough.

The game opens up with the theme from the TV show and the in-play gaming music fits nicely with the whole Dukes feel.

The General Lee's horn, one of the most coveted horn sounds in horn history, doesn't sound quite right, which makes me wonder why they couldn't just sample it from the original show.

With a little more polish, this could have been a little gem. Instead, what you have is a nice idea that has been left as just that.

If you are a big fan of the show you might get something out of it, but if you are up for a challenge, try pulling those weeds out of your garden. You'll get more satisfaction.
